What Are Two-Part Epoxy Adhesives?

One of the most well-known epoxy adhesives are the two-part epoxies, also called two-part epoxy glues or two-part epoxy resin. These glues are available in liquid form and in thick pastes that harden when dry; both kinds are manufactured with hardeners that activate when mixed with the resin.

Why Choose Two-Part Epoxy Adhesives?

Two-part epoxy glues, like the new Massetak Two-Component Epoxy Adhesive from Chemique Adhesives, are great in situations where you need a strong adhesive that will resist high temperatures, humidity, mild vibration and other extreme conditions. They come in a wide variety of grades for use on wood, metal, concrete, plastics and more.

For RV and motorhome delaminated flooring repairs, Axil FloorFix kit utilises a two-part epoxy adhesive that fixes the root cause of damage deep down in delaminated floor panels and walls, by revitalising structural integrity.

Here are some of their main advantages.

1.) Bonds A Variety Of Materials - Epoxy adhesives and resins are extremely popular due to their ability to bond a wide variety of materials including metals, timber, plastics, and more.

2.) High Strength Adhesive - Epoxy adhesives are incredible strong and have an extremely good ability to hold dissimilar substrates under sustained loads making them ideal structural adhesives.

3.) Chemique resistance - Epoxy Adhesives have excellent chemical and environmental resistance. Many formulations have a paste consistency which can be either bead applied with an application gun or troweled onto surfaces. Epoxy adhesives have great gap filling properties and provide excellent seals against harsh chemicals. Some epoxies can tolerate processing oil on the substrate and still obtain satisfactory bond strength!

4.) Controlled Bonding Process - Two-part epoxy adhesives offer convenience and control over the bonding process brining flexibility to your manufacturing process. The bond only activates once the hardener and and resin combines resulting in the curing process.

Things to consider...

There are a few disadvantages to using two-part epoxy.

1.) Adhesive Cost - The first disadvantages is that epoxy adhesives are generally expensive when compared to other options on the market. Two-part epoxy can be a more expensive way to bond things together than many other adhesives, including acrylic glue and solvent glues and polyurethane adhesives.

2.) Bond Integrity - Without modifications and exacting procedures in place, cured epoxies can be brittle. This holds especially true in environments that see aggressive vibrations. Although epoxies have good vibration resistance, some adhesives like polyurethane outpace performance and bond strength in this area.

3.) Precise Mix Ratios - Working with two-part epoxy adhesives often means precision and care need to be taken when it comes to mixing ratios. If you mix too much, or too little of one component the bond may not cure properly if there is any bond integrity to be found at all. Chemique Adhesives does a great job combatting this with pre-measured epoxy kits and cartridge systems!

Uses of Two-Part Epoxy Adhesives

A wide variety of two-part epoxy adhesives and glues is used in a range of industrial and domestic environments. They are known for their high bond strength to a wide variety of substrates. From bonding and sealing in structural environments, to gap filling in production two-part epoxy can bring strength and flexibility of application to your manufacturing process or your next home project.
